So you’re thinking about joining Avon?
Why become an Avon Representative?
Many Avon Representatives ask themselves this question almost everyday. The ‘why’ changes often. Why am I an Avon Representative? When I started in January 2015, it was because I wanted some of the Avon products that I had used in the past and I also had some family and friends asking if I still ‘sold’ Avon (I had previously been an Avon Representative, but that was before the whole ‘social media’ thing was around) So, I started up my Avon business in January 2015 by signing up online. The sign-up process was very easy and I couldn’t wait to get my ‘kit’ – so, I set up my free online eStore and started posting on all my social media that I was an Avon Representative and ready to sell and take orders.
As a ‘new’ Avon Representative, like many others in that position, it seemed that friends and family were more than happy to place an order. But then what? The newness soon fades and you’re left to look elsewhere for customers. That did not discourage me one bit! The traditional Avon Lady, went door to door passing out brochures and samples. Some Avon Representatives will swear by ‘tossing’ (dropping brochures in neighborhood driveways in the hopes of gaining customers) But, as many of you know, and if you’re reading this post, you are aware that the majority of our ‘shopping’ is done online. We are all so busy with this or that…. I will leave brochures in grocery stores when I’m out, but I have chosen to do most of my sales online. Working a full-time job as well at a local hospital also doesn’t allow me much daytime hours to be out, so with the help of Avon’s ‘social media center’ on the Avon Representative‘s resource website, I started sharing posts on FB, Twitter and Pinterest. Since then, I created a FB Page as well as this blog.
My ‘why’ changed again to “I want to make more money” – many people often ask if you can really make money selling avon, well the answer is YES! You can make money by being an Avon Representative. How much money you make depends on how much time you put into it. It is a business after all! My number one tip for this is to have self-discipline – because of course I want to buy everything for myself! HAHAHA… I’m still working on this and getting better at showing self-restraint everyday – if you’re already a fellow Representative you know exactly what I mean here. If you’re not an Avon Representative yet, but thinking of becoming one, you’ll understand this soon enough. The second tip to being successful is being consistent. The third thing is to share the Avon opportunity with others.
My next ‘why’ change occurred after months of ‘blogging’ – I had started this blog site toward the middle of 2015 and it is forever a work in progress – the ‘why’ came into play, because if you have a blog you know that it takes consistency and hours upon hours of writing and posting – is it worth it? YES, because I have been fortunate to receive orders from people all over the United States at my eStore that I attribute to them being readers of one of my posts.
Another one of the things I love about being an Avon Representative and the ‘why’ question is as an Avon Representative you are able to offer fundraising opportunities to your customers and organizations. Avon Representatives can sponsor fund-raisers with earnings of 50% that can be donated to the specific charity that the Avon Representative is helping. Avon also supports two great causes through the Avon Foundation for Women: The Breast Cancer Crusade and Speak Out Against Domestic Violence – Empowerment
I love being part of this great company that has been around for 130 years! For a brief history: Beauty For A Purpose Celebrates 130 Years Of Avon in 2016 – How many other direct sales companies have been around for half that long?
If you ever thought about becoming an Avon Representative, think about what your ‘why’ would be, now is such a great time to start. Don’t say a year from now that you had wished you had started today. To sign-up online: Join Avon Now

Barb Barry is a mom, daughter and sister. She works full-time as a pediatric RN. Barb grew up and still lives on Long Island in New York. She started an Avon business 3 years ago. Barb is building her team and enjoys online marketing.
One of the things that Barb loves so much about working her Avon business online is the freedom it gives her to work from home. Connecting with customers and team members online via Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram. Be sure to follow the social pages (see the links above this section). Another thing Barb loves about being an Avon Representative online is being able to help other representatives through the many online groups she belongs to. Managing her own FB business page, customer group and team group enhances her network. She uses post scheduling tools like Buffer and virtual business cards like Shuffle.
Barb’s Hobbies & Travel
Her hobbies include coloring (favorite iPad app is Recolor), crocheting and quilting when time allows. She also loves to travel via motorcycle although she has not been on any road trips lately. Places traveled via ‘bike’ include: Bar Harbor, Skyline Drive, Lake George and more. Good company, food and wine make her happy. Her bucket list trips include: Hawaii, California and South Dakota to name a few. She is still toying with the idea of learning to ride her own motorcycle. Attending RepFest 2017 in Nashville last August was a dream trip. Barb has been a ‘country music‘ fan for years. The location of RepFest 2018 has yet to be disclosed. She is hopeful that she will be able to make it a road-trip instead of flying this year.
Her journey with Avon started years ago. In 1999 she became a representative for the first time when her son was just a toddler.
After September 11, 2001, she went back to school, nearly 40 years old at that time. Her Avon business got put on the back burner during this time while she pursued a career in nursing, she graduated in 2005. Barb works full-time as a Registered Nurse at a Children’s Hospital on Long Island.
Over the years, many family and friends would ask if she was still involved with Avon. It didn’t take much thought, so she rejoined the Avon Family in January 2015. It’s been full steam ahead.
What Barb’s Doing Now
Currently servicing customers throughout the USA via the internet, this blog, social media and her eStore. Barb loves sharing Avon’s products, promotions and opportunity with others. Through Avon’s free online training for representatives, Barb acquired her Skin Care Specialist Certification. Barb attended Avon’s National Convention also known as RepFest in Nashville August 2017, where she received training for the espira by Avon Health & Wellness product line as well as attended business building seminars, product expo and enjoyed an exclusive concert, barbecue and fireworks on the Riverfront in Nashville, TN with over 6,000 of her fellow Avon Representatives. Barb has earned a Pink Cowboy Hat, free products, jewelry and discounts by achieving incentive goals.
Her goals for 2018 include achieving President’s Club Level (10,000 sales annually) and to continue building her team (Team Awesome). Being a full-time Avon Representative is Barb’s retirement plan, her involvement in Avon Leadership will help her achieve that goal. What’s your retirement plan?
Barb’s son is now grown and is a History Major at a local college. Her parents and sister live nearby and has a brother that lives in NC. She loves the way that her business fits into her life is using it to achieve her future financial goals.
A little bit about Avon
Avon is a company that puts mascara on lashes and food on tables, fights wrinkles with one hand and Breast Cancer with the other. A company that knows the value of a perfect lip, but still opens its mouth and speaks out against Domestic Violence and for women’s financial independence. Avon is a company that not only brings beauty to doors but also helps to open the doors of opportunity to so many. There are more than 6 million Representatives in over 100 countries. Avon is a company that for over 130 years has stood for beauty, innovation, optimism and above all…for women (and a few good men). I am very proud to be an Avon Representative!
The NEW AVON
New Avon LLC (“Avon”) is a privately held company consisting of the Avon businesses in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. For more than 130 years, the Avon brand has stood for beauty, innovation, optimism and, above all, for women. My Avon Story
I started my Avon business as a way to earn extra money. Selling Avon to family, friends and coworkers. Over the years, I realized that my passion for being an Avon Representative was growing so I expanded my customer base with the help of the internet. I have customers all over the United States now. I continue to build my Avon business because it allows me to supplement by current income. Truly enjoy servicing customers near and far by sharing the wonderful products that the NEW AVON, LLC has to offer.
I love networking with other representatives and had the pleasure of meeting so many during my visit to Nashville for REPFEST in August of 2017. My next steps will included expanding my team and achieving President’s Club sales level or beyond. I am looking forward to working my Avon business full-time when I retire from nursing in a few years. Avon will be my retirement plan, do you have one? Having my own business makes me feel empowered, independent, confident and yes, beautiful inside and out.
Most direct sales company representatives join to earn extra money or get their products at a discount. Some become very successful. The best advise that I can give to anyone looking to start a direct selling business is that you will not get rich quick overnight. It takes time and consistency to develop and build relationships with your customers and team members. In the end, those of us that succeed are the ones that never give up on their goals and dreams. I have learned this to be true for everyday life too.
My Journey & Future
So where will my journey with my Avon business take me in the future? After attending RepFest in Nashville in August 2017, I realized that there are many successful Avon Representatives out there and had the pleasure of meeting some. I am on my way to becoming one of them. Yes, you can really make a living selling Avon, only the sky is the limit! Barb
